Improve heatmap results view
The heatmap results view needs some TLC. This ticket is intended to spark the design work on the heatmap results view. Much of this work will likely take place here: https://github.com/sul-dlss/blacklight_heatmaps
Look at heatmap view in this exhibit example. Definitely room for improvement. https://exhibits.stanford.edu/time-travel-japan/browse/onsen-precincts?view=heatmaps
From: "Erik Steiner" [email protected] Hello again, Here are some comments on the results map view. Cool idea on the heat map. 1. I suggest expanding the map vertically. This will have two positive effects, giving both the map and the scrollable results list more viewing area. 2. It would be great if the results list was tied to the heat map cell that you clicked on instead of just everything in the current view. It makes clicking on the map useless, and there is no way to determine which item in the list is which on the map unless you have just one result (which defeats the purpose of the the map helping you narrow your search). 3. That the results list obscures half the map (but yet shows results that are behind it) and is impossible to close is very frustrating. 4. It would be nice if the results list had a scroll bar so that you could gain a visual sense of how many items are in the list and where you are in it. 5. What do the "Heat Map" options in the Metadata section do on a per field basis? I hope this helps! erik
From: "Regan Murphy Kao" [email protected] Thank you for adding the map view! It is great! Would it be possible to start from a closer view rather than a map of the whole world? The maps in this exhibit (https://exhibits.stanford.edu/time-travel-japan), for example, are all from Japan. So if the start page could be a map of Japan, it would be wonderful. Thank you!
From: "Regan Murphy Kao" [email protected] Thank you again for the map view, which is wonderful! Would it be possible to add scroll-over images of the maps? I'd love it if I saw a "preview" thumbnail of the map associated with the title as I scrolled over the title. Thank you!
From: "Regan Murphy Kao" [email protected] Hello! I love that when I do a general search for the term "jinja" (shrine), I can see all the shrines from the collection on a map of Japan. It is really fabulous! Would it be possible to add a "highlighting" feature so that when I scroll over a title the location shows up highlighted on the map? Thank you!
From: "Regan Murphy Kao" [email protected] We have several versions of maps of a single place, such as from Nikko, from different times. It would be great to use a sliding timeline to see how they change over time. Thank you!
@mejackreed let's discuss -- wondering if any of this could be in scope for the current Exhibits workcycle
