Question: Should a fielded search be working for a title that ends in a question mark?
At present, searches for titles that end in a question mark are not working, for example:
Who’s the heir?
Qui êtes-vous?
Albert--Warum?
This feels like SW-3840.
Agreed.
This is helpful, but only to a point. I need to know the disposition of this. I can''t interpret the comments on the JIRA ticket. Is it a known issue that we have tried workarounds for, but there is no good solution at present? Is there a github ticket for it and it will be worked on in a future SW work cycle? If so when? Or something else? @saseestone are you able to assist here?
It's a known issue. The question mark is considered a single-character wildcard by ... solr, I think. The search expects there to be some real character present in that space, and when there is none, the search fails.
There is no workaround for SW, apart from leaving off the question mark when you do the search. We can't disable single-character wildcards altogether, because the feature is used in advanced search. The Gryphon-Search group has discussed the issue, and made some suggestions for resolution. I don't believe there's been any substantial dev review of those suggestions.
There is no github issue yet, but it is labelled movetogithub
... so that will happen at some point, and the Fix Version is marked for consideration in the next SW workcycle.
That's all I know.
