Date histogram acts oddly when user uses the browser back button

While using the date filter, a staff member tried to clear their date range settings by using the browser back button. (They didn't see the "X" to close the date range.)

After selecting the back button, the date filter remained open and the histogram disappeared - leaving a large blank space in the filter. I'm not sure exactly what to do here but it probably shouldn't be this.

Display with a date range applied:

Then use the browser back button and see this:
