Slow scrolling in Files tab when tooltips are showing

  • OS: Ubuntu 22.04

Description

Scrolling with the mouse wheel in the Files tab is slow when a tooltip is showing

Steps to reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open a repository
  2. Select a commit that touches many files
  3. Select the files tab
  4. Hover over a file name until a tooltip is shown
  5. Scroll with the mouse wheel: it's now sluggish

Expected behavior

I don't think we should even be using eliding_label_control here, and along with that, the tooltip should just be ditched entirely, it's not giving much value.

I really wish Jon were a more publicly visible and reachable person. The community might learn a lot from him. I met with Sublime Text back in 2014 and use it to this day despite all newer and fancier(!) editors out there. The pure esthetics and engineering in it... delightful.

Shrug. He is a very disciplined person, I guess, and takes care of his time. Once upon a time he would reply to my messages. I guess I am persona non grata now :)

I've huge respect for him anyway. I even believe in the future when he becomes bored with doing business he will open source Sublime Text completely. And that will be a historical moment for the community :)
