what are you unable to locate? is the whole directory missing or is it empty? in addition, you should provide some more information on what system and what version of vega you are using.

.metadata is a hidden directory. You can acces log files from console or enabling hidden directories and files.

To fix your problem you have to do the steps of https://github.com/subgraph/Vega/issues/177 and install libwebkitgtk-1.0-0. It is also important that you use Java 8.
