Updating an existing follow to new DID leads to lag / phone heating up

I'm able to get my phone into a hotplate/long-loading-spinner state when renaming an existing follow. My steps to do it most recently were:

1. Add new ben as "new-ben" (had to tap "Done" a few times before it seemed to take)
2. Go to followers (new ben wasn't there yet)
3. Renamed "ben" to "ben-deprecated" (didn't seem to take for a long time, I tapped out of the view)
4. Pull to refresh, hoping to see "new-ben"
5. Wait while phone heats up and loading spinner pins (~30 seconds)
6. Everything is eventually correct
