If the question is about having some suggestion on the software itself, about "common sense" timing ranges, I am in support of this question. It might also be, in the readme file here. I guess, maybe research typical causes, e.g., external USB drives on windows, whether windows USB power saving taken out or not (that would have own windows notions of what is idle usage, idk), versus some mainstream gamut of drive manufacturers. From the USB hub possibly having a role, to the drive "controller" (do SSD have spin down equivalent, btw, thinking not, so this seems mechanical drive sub-question). The USB power saving from OS might affect external SSDs, so it might be useful to talk about that too. I know this is not ready coding issue. But here is our only whole software delivery contribution possibility of communication. It might also mean coding if the notions here bear fruit. I am not a coder.

PS: just for some data point: I have turned off all the windows 10 USB related power saving permissions.. and have some 3 drives through 2 external USB "shells", the one I can't really have some software interface with (did not come with the drives), seems to be where with my just tested 15 min. some of those drives still appeared to have spun down enough for a copy file noticeable lag in that windows copying window would seem to stall for a while. And I could hear the waking up... (maybe a big drive, does it make a diff.?).

existing concise web lit. on this also welcome.
