IMHO kvm_base can be implemented very cleanly, it just requires the sufficient amount of cleanups beforehand. I am not sure why you dislike it, but I suspect because of 3abb287....

I mean I wanted to implement kvm_base in a separate branch, not in devel. On which you could then rebase.
Hi Bart, I've finally done all the needed clean-ups (quite a lot was needed), and prototyped kvm_base in "kvm_base" branch.
Bart, do you have any interest in trying the kvm_base stuff? If not - either I should, or we leave it away.

Yes, for me it draws 1-2 buttons, then hangs.
Yes, for me the hang is not even complete: it still reacts on Esc for example, so I can exit. Btw, 0 byte(s) free should now be fixed.
