Self Destruct on and off

When I publish a note, and choose Self Destruct, the button turns green. Then I click on Publish. Now I close the share settings, but when I reopen it I notice that Self Destruct is unchecked. So I turn back on Self Destruct and then Update. But then the same thing happens when I reopen it. Why does this happen?
