Need to add custom metadadata and add to search

Based on custom requirement, do we have option to add custom metadata to files and add them in search box?

Can you give us an example of metadata that you would like to search by and suggest where you would like the search box to be for this? Should it be an advanced box that allows you to search for metadata or maybe a search query "director:sam*"
