Watch media folders and auto-add new files

Open varac opened this issue 5 years ago • 11 comments

It would be great if streama would watch my i.e. movies folder and auto-add files to it's db when new files are present in this directory. A manual trigger to auto-add would be fine for me as well, I just want to skip the manual bulk-adding of new files.

Plex does this that way and I liked it.

I love this feature idea ! Any idea how I would show it in the UI that there are new files with matches? Should it be split by tvshow / movie or should there be a new "overview" page in "Manage Contents" with a list? And: should each file of a tv-show be listed or whats the best approach?

That would be more than desirable on my part, thanks for wording the suggestion! I think the "overview" approach is more viable, and (in the case that you don't add tons of files of various series and movies at the same time), more organized. If you have a lot of series already in the db, it might be a little overwhelming if they are shown by tv-show/movie. Of course, this is my personal opinion, I imagine myself more comfortable having an "overview" of new files. Anyhow, thanks for all the hard work on the devs part, you're doing a great and appreciated job!

This would be great! As it stands, with a large existing library generated by something like sonarr, its nearly impossible to import them all because of the directory structure (it has a lot of depth).

Also this feature should definitely filter by filetype!

An overview page with recently (auto-)added media would be nice, but I'd be also happy without one. Plex i.e. does it like that: You just pour new media (together with subtitles) into a directory and plex will automatically show them as recently added. No import needs to be done manually. If we want streama to automatically distinct between different media types streama could be intructed from which directory to auto-import movies, and from which directory to import tv-shows i.e. The most awesome feature would be if streama could distinguish this by itself, but this is yet another issue, which is out of scope of this one.

The need for manually importing my existing (and future) media is currently the only issue blocking me from migrating from plex to streama.

Bump. As far as showcasing newly added content, I think Kodi does a really nice job

This option can be made, for every refresh/edit on the Directory, the files will be searched and see what's new, we can add this option in Admin CP, and you can enable & disable - Autoadd

Hi, I guess it would be great too !

Any chance this might be considered for development soon? Would really improve the application in my opinion and I can imagine it's a very well sought-after feature

Bumping this request

Bumping this request, it'd be great to be able to automatically create some media that can later be refined (if it doesn't match known media):

  • Extract a few thumbnails from the video
  • Use the file metadata or file name to provide a title
