Unable to give a custom name to pre-release bump

Here is what gem gives me;

rake version:create VERSION=2.0.rc1 2.0.0c1

Here is the what i am trying to do, is there any trick to achieve this?

rake version:create VERSION=2.0.rc1 2.0.rc1

Sorry, but that style of version numbering isn't currently supported. It's probably not much work; if you'd like to submit a patch, I'll be happy to accept it.
