[Feature Request] Make the Drafts system follow a progressive, ascending logic of screenplay drafts
Problem
Currently, the drafts system works more like a manual backups/version freeze system. You make a copy of your current version so you can continuing making changes.
In addition, "Current Draft" is not renamable.
The current logic is:
- Create a new draft (but this new draft is actually now the old draft, like a manual backup)
- Work your new draft on the "Current Draft" instead of the draft you just created
Above, we created a new draft "2nd Draft" but are now working on "Current Draft" (which is 3rd Draft but we will only be able to name it after we finish it).
It's very confusing.
The logic should be:
- Create a new draft
- Work on this new draft
Above, we created a new draft "3rd Draft", and now start working on it.
This way, we are naming the draft we are about to start writing right when we create it. It's a much more logically-clean way of progressing on your drafts.
There's an expectation that when we create a New draft, that we will be working on the New thing.
Proposal
- Rename "Current Draft" to "First Draft";
- When we choose "Create New Draft", it should move "First Draft" to the right and put us on "Second Draft" and this Second Draft becomes our "current draft". And the "First Draft" is pushed to the right.
Example (in this case, the newly created draft, "3rd Draft", is the "Current Draft"):
Additionally, allow us to rename all drafts, including the First Draft. Many screenwriters, including me, start with a Zeroth Draft — also known as "vomit draft". This 0th Draft or "vomit draft" is written without much consideration for getting everything right or well-worded, but rather to get it done, to have a first beginning-to-end version. After that 0th Draft is done, we then duplicate it, rename it "1st Draft", criticize the hell out of it, make it concise, well-worded etc. and that is the 1st Draft we can actually share with friends, producer etc. Then we create a 2nd Draft, 3rd Draft and so on after feedback.
Proposal+
It would be even nicer if we could set, in the preferences, which default draft version we prefer to start with (0th Draft, or 1st Draft). Should satisfy every writer's workflow.
Additional: Even nicer still, if Starc automatically increments the draft name from there every time we create a new draft. Would make it very efficient (we don't have to rename drafts manually if we don't want to).
