I've installed syngestures which fixes the problem, I had to disable quite all the other gestures that it comes with by default because they were causing all sorts of annoyances....
Switching to Arch also worked.

It seems like when the podcast content is downloaded that chunks are skipped or reinserted in the wrong place. Sometimes the podcast will appear to jump backwards and repeat, sometimes...
