Mouse Hover Issues | Dock-Exposé Version 3.0.0.1
First and foremost, I would like to extend my sincere thanks for your continued effort in developing Dock-Exposé. Your work enhances the daily computing experience, making it more efficient and enjoyable.
I've encountered a couple of issues in the latest version 3.0.0.1, that I hope can be addressed in future updates:
-
Mouse Hover Issue on App Icons: When hovering the mouse over an application icon in the dock, the expected behaviour is to see the open windows associated with that app. Unfortunately, in the current version, the open windows do not appear upon hovering. Instead, when moving the mouse away, it mistakenly shows the windows of the previously hovered application. This inconsistency in behaviour can be confusing and disrupts workflow efficiency.
-
Request for Delay Function on Window Exposé: The exposed windows disappear too quickly when the mouse is moved away from the dock. This rapid vanishing of windows makes it challenging to reach and click on them for selection. I kindly request the addition of a delay function to manage how long the exposed windows remain visible after the mouse leaves the dock area. This feature would greatly aid in navigating between windows, especially on larger screens where more precise mouse movements are necessary.
I believe these adjustments could significantly improve the user experience for many, including myself. Thank you for considering this feedback and for your dedication to refining Dock-Exposé. I look forward to future updates and continued enhancements to this invaluable tool.
What scroll reverser are you using? I think this is the cause... (I use mos, and Dock Exposé SHOULD have support for: pilotmoon's "scroll-reverser", "UnnaturalScrollWheels", "mac-mouse-fix", "mos").
My virtual machine didn't seem to work with mos until I flipped scrolling on Dock Exposé (for some reason it's fine outside VM w/ mos though)... which is why this is the main suspect.
Thanks for your reply. I use BetterTouchTool (BTT) as for scroll reverse and other functions.
can you please try https://github.com/steventheworker/Dock-Expos--home/releases/tag/v3.00.3
it's not officially been pushed as an update I'm waiting for someone to tell me it works... it seems to work on both my machine and my VM! it's kind of a rudimentary fix, you have to maintain your mouse over a previewable app until it opens (~1second)... then it should work if it didn't work the first time, please give it another try by restarting
here's how it works on the VM... perhaps trying tccutil reset All com.steventheworker.Dock-Expose
helps?

Tested, and the mouse hover issue seems to be solved. Still, the exposed windows disappear too quickly when the mouse is moved away from the dock. This rapid vanishing of windows makes reaching and clicking on them impossible. A pause or delay function to manage how long the exposed windows remain visible after the mouse leaves the dock area is essential to fix this issue. One thought would be something that mimics the mouse scrolling down on an icon. Normally (without Dock Expose), upon scrolling down on an icon in the dock, the listed windows will not vanish when the mouse moves out of the app icon in the dock, and the exposed windows remain open until one of them is selected by clicking.
Thank you again for your attention and fast support!
I pushed another update (3.00.4) that tries to make previews less crazy... the delay to open app exposé will come soon as the baseline behavior is established.
As for the delay that keeps app exposé open it's (currently) hardcoded: at 222ms... this is definitely going to be changed... before the rebuild I believe it was 444/666ms, and I gave an extra 666ms if there was an external monitor.
...in the future I'll likely make it depend on how far the mouse is from the furthest appexposé preview.
just want to sort these preview bugs out first before delays
Thank you again for your attention. Still, it seems that using the native scroll function in macOS would be more practical, as selecting a window may need much more time. Normally (without Dock Expose), upon scrolling down on an icon in the dock, the listed windows will not vanish when the mouse moves out of the app icon in the dock, and the exposed windows remain open until one of them is selected by clicking.
While your endeavour in developing creative solutions for this problem is greatly appreciated, to fix this issue, I would consider no hiding windows (as scrolling on the Dock icon normally does) or an optional delay.
