Feature Request: restic based backup
I was just wondering, is it possible to have images (which anyways work as snapshots since its per subdir), work through restic ? this would be highly beneficial since dedupe etc can kick in, which can save lots of disk space if you are holding on to multiple images across multiple pc's.
Thanks for your feedback. AFAIK, restic is a file-based program. However, for Clonezilla, ATM, we focus on the block-based solution.
Yes restic works with files but it can work with stdin. The backup itself used block based deduplication. Hence you could just pipe it to restic uncompressed for the drive data itself. I think if it works out, you could have a single repository with multiple snapshots and very little additional disk space being used.
Thanks for your suggestion. As I mentioned, we focus on the block-based imaging/cloning for this project. So maybe in the future....
