This is a perfect illustration of the point I was making in the other issue. The client should have a user agent, and the library probably should include one, yet you overlooked it while writing the library.

This is a good argument in favor of sensible defaults, that are more informative than the empty string.

i overlooked it, because:

• it's not important to me. it is to you and i understand and appreciate your reasons
• i wrote most of it on a plane from nyc to london.
