installing from tarbal creates directory steve-steve-3.8.0 instead of steve-3.8.0

Steps to Reproduce the Problem

Following the install instructions for the tar-ball ends up with a directory named steve-steve-3.8.0

Additional context

Renaming dir to steve-3.8.0 works fine.

If you unpack the tarbal you get always the dir "steve-steve-". If you check the previous versions, you will see it was already 10 years ago this dir naming. I do not like it as well, because I have to rename it. But I do not know why this naming was chosen.

this has to do with the naming convention i am using for tags under releases: https://github.com/steve-community/steve/releases. years ago, i started naming the tags like steve-$version, and github is putting another steve- in front of that.

i actually thought about changing it to just $version but did not want to disrupt their lexicographic order given that it is just a minor annoyance.
