How does “Prettify syntax highlighter” work?

I indented with four spaces and got the PRE element. But the highlighting is ugly, maybe the language is not detected properly.

Is there any public page this can be previewed on? Alternatively -- can you share a screenshot to check whether the issue is indeed the proper language not being detected?

I believe the latest alpha for WP-MarkDown includes the GitHub flavored version of adding code blocks, which allows for the language to be specified: https://help.github.com/articles/creating-and-highlighting-code-blocks/

So if improperly detected language is indeed the issue on your end, this would be resolved once version 1.6 of the plugin is released.
