Update function in single-note-widget

Open user13v31 opened this issue 3 years ago • 2 comments

Hi there,

i stumbled over another thing that vexes me every other day. Me and my wife use a single card as a shopping list and sometimes i don't see her changes. On my home screen I use the single-card-widget to see the list directly, tapping on it let's me edit the card, but I am not able to tell it to "update". Another situation where this problem might arise: editing the cards on different devices. A solution might be the well established 'pull-down-to-update' mechanism or a button on the widget maybe even 'pull down'-gesture aon the widget (not in edit mode)? I am not quite sure if this feature is necessary, maybe I am just kinda mistreating your app, sorry if that's the case ;) I guess there are already measures in place to tackle this scenario, if this is no feature-material, could you tell me how the sync works , i.e. how long the timespan between updates is?

Kind regards and thanks for this awesome app.

Hi @user13v31,

Thanks for your proposal! I guess we have a rare case of "I'm here to make a change, not a complaint" here, so thanks for your kind words!

I myself am misusing the app for the same thing with my girlfriend, so I'm the last one who is allowed to judge you 😉

I think you got a valid point here. Someone desperately waiting for something to get done might have the same use case. The thing here is: Widgets in Android are in fact very limited in their functions, we can only implement, what the system allowes us to.

I think pull-down-to-refresh isn't possible. Also there is a hard limitation regarding "how often is a widget allowed to do things by itself" to refresh the widget, if I'm not mistaking, it is like a day or something. One could cheat a bit but no one knows how long Android will tolerate these chats, maybe they blocked it already.

BUT: A button should be possible. This is a case for the one and only @stefan-niedermann to check if he is willing to do this from a UX perspective. I'm just the server-communication guy throwing in my two cents.

For now you only can open the deck app, it should automatically update in the background (the spinner won't show up i think). you then can just return to your widget, if the app updates the data, the widget should, too. @stefan-niedermann correct me if I'm wrong!

Thanks for your proposal again, let's see what @stefan-niedermann has to say about it, but until it is done I'm afraid you'll have to do it in this inconvenient way, sorry!

It would also be useful, if the widgets had a "add" button with "+" or something like that. Atleast its convinient to directly add something to a list etc.
