steemit.com can't decide if a post exists or not, steemd.com crashes on it
Expected behavior:
I can open a post on steemit.com or steemd.com by its url, regardless of tags used as the url prefix or not, provided that poster and post-id are included in the url.
Actual behavior:
Some posts, appear as non-existent or deleted, when opened with some urls, and may appear as normal when opened by different urls.
How to reproduce: Just open specific url in the browser.
example of properly working post urls, all those work fine and it's OK:
- https://steemit.com/asdasdaasd/@steemcleaners/impersonator-warning
- https://steemit.com/@steemcleaners/impersonator-warning
- https://steemd.com/steemcleaners/@steemcleaners/impersonator-warning
- https://steemd.com/asdasdaasd/@steemcleaners/impersonator-warning
- https://steemd.com/@steemcleaners/impersonator-warning
However, those were constructed in a similar way, and produce various effects:
- https://steemit.com/dtube/@victoryeung/puui9x - FAILS, "post dont exist"
- https://steemit.com/asdasdaasd/@victoryeung/puui9x - FAILS, "post dont exist"
- https://steemit.com/@victoryeung/puui9x - OK, post opens (and corrects url to /dtube/ one)
- https://steemd.com/dtube/@victoryeung/puui9x - FAILS, steemd crashes
- https://steemd.com/asdasdaasd/@victoryeung/puui9x - FAILS, steemd crashes
- https://steemd.com/@victoryeung/puui9x - FAILS, steemd crashes
I don't know the reason for that. It may have some connection to the facts that:
- author 'victoryeung' (a.k.a. 'crystalliu') is a known spammer/scripter/farmer/(...)
- and also very often deletes/edits/reposts the same post
- and also seems to be running his own witness node
There's some small chance that they have found some hole and that those posts are specifically designed for that effect to make tracing/watching their actions harder. No proofs for that though.
I can open all the links you provided without any issues or "crashing" anything.
Something has changed. Now, 7hrs later, I confirm that I can open them all without problems. Now I somewhat regret I didnt record screenshots or network requests/responses..
It wasn't some transient network issue, I observed that effect for at least 2hrs before I noticed something's wrong and how it works (tags present in the url or not) and before I decided to post here.
I'll keep an eye on that and provide more examples if I find this behavior again.
I received "404" error from a post using SteemPeak the other day, but the post was brand new and being promoted legitimately via the author's newest post - and since posts can't be deleted, I was very confused..
But I refreshed 20 minutes later, and boom there it was.
I often get errors when trying to broadcast to the blockchain too, but refreshing the activity via SteemPeak sends the broadcast through.
Not sure if changing your node may help at all if the issue happens again, try it :)
