How to retransform images

I'd like to retransform already stored images. Is there an easy way for that? Stackoverflow doesn't have an answer either. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/43936322/re-transform-existing-avatars

I guess the quick and dirty would be to point to the remote path of the currently hosted image and replay the upload.

Aside from that theres no logic I see in the source to reprocess images.
