What about open standard support in devices?

Hi,

I wonder if is there a plan to support some more open standard / open solution in devices?

I mean Almond is privacy aver platform but most what I can see in Device list is connection to walled gardens like google, slack, microsoft, facebook, twitter and so on which is great but tracks the user all the time.

What I miss is devices for open, federated solution like:

  • Mastodon (http://mastodon.social/)
  • Diaspora (https://joindiaspora.com/)
  • Peertube (https://peertube.cpy.re/)
  • Matrix (http://matrix.org/) - as a possibly alternative for Slack
  • Standard SMTP/Imap szerver
  • Nexcloud support - but better support for generic WebDav solutions (https://www.npmjs.com/package/webdav)
  • generic CalDav
  • generic CardDav
  • search with DuckDuckGo (https://duckduckgo.com/) instead of Bing... just to name some...

So is there a near future plan to implement some of them? ;)

Hi @szimszon, Thank you a lot for your suggestions. Unfortunately, we won't be able to work on these devices recently as a very small research group. The idea of Thingpedia comes from Wikipedia: it is built to be an open repository that everyone can contribute. We will try to improve the documentation and interface to make creating a new device on Thingpedia as easy as possible. We hope we can build a community of developers to keep adding devices to the repository, and maybe also a forum where users can suggest devices as you did. Cheers, Silei.
