Unexpected UI language

After a correct install (ghetto-skype_1.5.0_amd64.deb on LInux Mint 18.1) the UI is in an unknown (arabic?) language:

The language can be changed using the link in the lower right corner, but sadly that change is not persistent. Is there a way to specify the language manually?
