Standard Notes Not Working Offline
Describe the bug I've tried creating a new note, added some images into the note and it said “Uploading”.
After it was finished adding the images, I turned off my Wi-Fi and restarted Standard Notes, the images that where uploaded from this computer didn't load and Standard Notes complained that it couldn't load the files.
To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:
- Create a new note and add some images.
- After if finishes uploading the images, quit Standard Notes and turn off the Wi-Fi.
- Reopen Standard Notes and try checking the same new note with the added images.
- The note will not load the images.
Expected behavior As the note was just created from this very computer, the images inside should be available even offline. There's no "Download" or "Make available offline" button/option for the notes, so they should stay cached, mostly because they where just created.
Enable the Wi-Fi will, load the images, but if you turn it off again and relaunch the note, the problem happens again.
It's worse on the iOS version, because it keeps downloading the images over and over again, every time I launch the app, this is eating Cel Data when I'm not on Wi-Fi.
Screenshots I created a Notion page with the details and a video showing the issue: https://danioc.notion.site/Standard-Notes-Offline-Not-Working-0116a9d05835469e8d9c1efc847fa142?pvs=4

Additional context I can reproduce this on the Mac, iOS and iPad apps.
Hi @DaniloDesigner, since you're currently using the desktop app, you can enable the Automatic file backup option in this case! Because this feature saves an encrypted copy of your files locally on your device, this also allows the desktop app to load the files even without an internet connection 🙏
However, I'm afraid there is no similar mechanism for the mobile apps at the moment.
Hi @effieeee
I see what you mean, but this is a different mechanism that will keep a copy of my data into a different folder, as I clicked it, it just asked me to choose a folder in my system, pointing the desktop by default, I left it proceed and now I have a duplicate of my data that is syncing to my cloud service, that sync my desktop (iCloud Drive), this will result in SN using my cloud storage, which defeats the purpose of having the Professional plan with 100 GB of storage, I could just run it off my cloud, which is something I'm not interested on, I wanted to use SN cloud included in my plan.
On the mobile version, this is a big problem because it could just use all my cell data plan as it keeps downloading the same data over and over, every time I open my notes.
I understand that this is a limitation, but I would suggest not advertising that SN works offline, not fully, it works with text only, at the moment.
I appreciate the reply :)
Edit:
Adding the screenshot from SN settings, for reference:
I can reproduce this problem on Android (Pixel 6a) as well. App version 3.198.14
Interestingly, the problem does not occur with images that are external, ie. those that were inserted via (public) URL. Those seem to stay successfully cached when offline.
