Changes to cope with revised drama structure

This PR is a grab bag of changes to the system needed to work with the proposed revised drama structure. It’s not complete; additional work on lint is definitely still needed. But I’ll open it as draft anyway so that interested parties can track the work.

I’ve got two weeks off over Christmas, and I was planning a final push on this then. If I can’t get it done then, then I’ll abandon my work on this.
