We need to add a "mark as read" option when you haven't been in a chat for a while, it can take a long time to scroll to the latest. Slack and Discord both have an indicator "+20 New Messages" with "Mark as Read". For mobile, it'd be good to jump down to the latest message (bottom of the chat) when you tap "Mark as Read".
