GRANT MISSION, IMPACT, RISKS & REFERENCE

Grant Mission:         In Senegal, cryptocurrency users listed by exchanges are estimated at just over 200,000. To this, we must add all the other users who make trade in p2p. Bitcoin, which is part of this list of cryptocurrencies, is therefore widely acclaimed by the local population. There are businesses that accept bitcoin as a means of payment, industrialists who use it to pay their suppliers, startups that build products and services around bitcoin, associations that promote financial education through bitcoin and investment companies that offer bitcoin-based investment vehicles.

The Dakar Bitcoin Days Without profit, of international scope, for public, private sectors, academic, and the local and sub-regional population, the Dakar Bitcoin Days has set many goals: • Short-term goals o Organize panels on topics that revolve around bitcoin (economy, finance, security, cryptography, mining, geopolitics, hardware, programming, sustainable development, philosophy...) o Organize a hackathon to find solutions to known/unknown problems that can be solved by bitcoin o Introduce startups and other companies that develop solutions around bitcoin o Bringing together the players of the Senegalese, French-speaking and global bitcoin ecosystem o Introduce the world to the Senegalese and French-speaking bitcoin ecosystem • Long-term goals o Highlight the technological and cryptographic aspects of Bitcoin o Demystifying prejudices about Bitcoin in French-speaking Africa o Federate local and regional players in the Bitcoin ecosystem o Hatching startups that revolve around Bitcoin o Make Senegal a flagship destination for Bitcoin events around the world. Targets This forum is an excellent opportunity to bring together all these actors and have their feedback, but also to make known the unknown aspects of Bitcoin to the general public and decision makers. We expect to have more than 500 attendees.

It would be a good occasion for people to discover the ecosystem around Bitcoin and linked to sidechains and layers (2 and 3). Students, academics and professionnals would discover a new way of dealing with Bitcoin, through Stacks.

Grant Impact:               What will be important are the number of attendees during these 2 days of the event, but also the number of reactions we would have in the social medias (hashtags mention, likes, shares, comments).

Grant Risks:                          The only risk that exist is to not have all the funds we need to do the Dakar Bitcoin Days. We have a 70,000$ budget and are looking for donations/grants/sponsorships to be able to cover all these charges. If we do not have the funds, we will reimbourse all donators and postpone the event.

Support Link:                                     Yu can fin in this link the Dakar Bitcoin Days pitch deck, with all the information you need about the event.

Hi @nourou4them -

We have identified the projects we will be awarding grants as part of Stacks Foundation Grants Program Cohort 18. I'm sorry to have to inform you that your project was not among those selected.

This is no way means that we do not see the value of the work you proposed. We're lucky to have so many talented independent researchers, developers, and community leaders like yourself building on Stacks. Unfortunately, we receive many more proposals than we can actually fund with our limited means, so competition is extremely tough. While we generally support innovation in all forms, we tend to prioritize projects that have the potential to advance and differentiate the broader ecosystem from other blockchains, as well as projects that meet critical needs of the community at the time. These constraints mean that in several instances, several excellent projects may not make it into a cohort.

We very much appreciate the time and effort you've put into this process and encourage you to continue watching this repo and consider submitting a new application if and when you feel your project better aligns with the current priorities of the Grants Program.

If you should have any questions, please let us know in the comment section below.

Best, Will Stacks Foundation Grants Program Manager
