GRANT MISSION, IMPACT, RISKS & REFERENCE

Grant Mission:         Stacks Climate X enables all Bitcoin holders, Bitcoin miners and Stacks Wallets to reach Carbon Neutrality while understanding the impact of their transactions.

Sustainability and Climate Change have become priorities worldwide, including among blockchain ecosystems and communities. ePioneers brings environmental credits on-chain in partnership with leading organizations in the climate sector from Latin America, the US and Europe (the IDB, the WWF, the Humboldt Institute, the B3, among others).

With this partnership, the Stacks Community can address the sustainability claims the Bitcoin community has faced for many years. Beyond increasing the chances of higher BTC adoption, Stacks Climate X enables the accumulation of environmental credits (with potential yields), the analytics of CO2 emissions from BTC transactions and the access to a rising carbon credits market.

Grant Impact:               The key metrics are:

  • % of BTCs with Carbon Neutrality (non-fungible traceability) = adoption % and #
  • improved reputation for BTC and Stacks community around Climate/ Sustainability
  • faster/larger adoption of BTC-based products

Grant Risks:                          We plan to complete the grant within 3 months. We already have the team aboard and are ready to start working. To mitigate risk, we are implementing agile methodologies, strict deadlines and "backup teammates". We are connected to the STX community to trigger it in case we need to find more talent.

Support Link:                                     We already built an MVP on Android, iOS and web. Our token is also on Stacks, showing a capacity to build on Stacks; Token on TestNet = (https://explorer.stacks.co/txid/0x507fbee1cbe4e4204a6ecc721d08d9fc8e797f15552dc22b2c4668bfbbad909e?chain=testnet)

GRANT ROADMAP & DELIVERABLES

MILESTONE 2:

Deliverable:                   Coded User interface, Coded API

FINAL DELIVERABLE

Deliverable:                   Stacks Climate X API to offset STX wallets, BTC transactions, BTC wallets

👋 @imilkes Thanks for your application! We will do a pre-review and let you know if we have any immediate questions. In the mean time please refer to our review schedule here for a detailed timeline and response dates. Best, Will

Hi @imilkes -

Thank you for your application. Earlier this week when we kicked off the review cycle with the Grants Review Committee we brought them up to speed on the top three objectives we are prioritizing for this cohort:

  1. Support grants that improve Stacks-Bitcoin integration.
  2. Support grants that improve the Clarity developer experience and attract new Clarity developers to Stacks.
  3. Support grants that improve the attractiveness of Stacks as a place to build for founders and attract founders to Stacks.

Currently, we have funding for 40-50% of the applications received in this cohort. We are reaching out to teams that have exciting applications, but feel less aligned with those objectives to comment on how/if you feel your project is consistent with one or more of these objectives and let us know how and why.

Thanks! Will

Thank you Will! We are making Stacks more attractive for founders to build on this blockchain and invest in our Bitcoin-settled digital assets for climate. Here are some reasons why we add value to the Stacks Ecosystem:

  1. Bitcoin as stored value for tokenized climate credits. From the 50,000 investment funds that exist today in regions like the UK, only 10% of them have ESG mandates/investments. In the next 24 months -- and with the pressure of a recently-launched UK-based ETS Carbon Market System plus a Global Carbon Market with an annual volume of almost $1 trillion USD -- environmental credits/carbon markets have a very high probability of continuing growing. These factors benefit more sustainable practices but also climate startups actively working in the field. ePioneers is enabling the tokenization of environmental credits, having access to the supply from the most biodiverse region in the world (LATAM) with billions of USD of unlocked value. Enabling Bitcoin-settled environmental credits can drive massive investments and growth into the Stacks Ecosystem over the short and long-terms.

  2. Climate CityCoins to enable Miami, NYC and other American cities to purchase our Climate Token as part of their City Wallets. As the founder of ePioneers, my team and I enabled the creation of Latin America's 1st digital nomads visa. This shows our passion to develop ecosystems. Climate Inaction could cost the USA $14.5 trillion USD (in present-value terms). CityCoins can help us bring web3 for climate innovation to the leading mayors of the country. The Climate X Wallet is the 1st step to enable companies in the Bitcoin Ecosystem to offset their impact and make the Stacks Ecosystem more sustainable.

  3. As a Latin American woman founder in web3, the fact of building on Stacks can invite more under represented founders to learn more about the benefits of the community and the Stacks Technology. Blockchain can play a massive role in emerging markets because of the benefits of the technologies (and the lack of transparency in the traditional legacy systems). At least in 72 countries, women cannot open bank accounts or access credit: https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoXChromosomes/comments/lrtxr4/til_at_least_72_countries_prevent_women_from/

This is incredibly unfair and corrupt. Women founders in web3 bring new perspectives and a lens to innovate that is more inclusive and representative of the world's population.

Hi @imilkes

We have identified the projects we will be awarding grants as part of Stacks Foundation Grants Program Cohort 18. I'm sorry to have to inform you that your project was not among those selected.

This is no way means that we do not see the value of the work you proposed. We're lucky to have so many talented independent researchers, developers, and community leaders like yourself building on Stacks. Unfortunately, we receive many more proposals than we can actually fund with our limited means, so competition is extremely tough. While we generally support innovation in all forms, we tend to prioritize projects that have the potential to advance and differentiate the broader ecosystem from other blockchains, as well as projects that meet critical needs of the community at the time. These constraints mean that in several instances, several excellent projects may not make it into a cohort.

We very much appreciate the time and effort you've put into this process and encourage you to continue watching this repo and consider submitting a new application if and when you feel your project better aligns with the current priorities of the Grants Program.

If you should have any questions, please let us know in the comment section below.

Best, Will Stacks Foundation Grants Program Manager
