Add the packaging metadata to build the scuttlebot snap

Open come-maiz opened this issue 7 years ago • 7 comments

This package will let you publish the latest scuttlebot in the Ubuntu store, and from there reach many users on all the supported Ubuntu versions, and Linux distributions. You just have to go to https://build.snapcraft.io and enable the automated continuous delivery.

wow, this looks like quite a different thing to the standard ubuntu repos - can you link me to something which explains how we'd make use of this, it sounds promising!

Hello @dominictarr!

Thanks for looking at it. Here is my personal view on why I like these new packages: http://elopio.net/blog/ipfs-crowdtesting/ And here you will find more formal docs and guides: https://snapcraft.io/

If you have any question, just ping me.

pura vida.

@elopio

Thanks for this! How can I test to ensure this still works? I'm running Arch Linux, but can happily run Ubuntu images in Docker/etc.

Hello @christianbundy. You have to install snapcraft, and run it on the root directory of this branch. I think it works on arch, and there's also a snapcraft docker image. I'm no longer working on the project, but you can contact @popey and @flexiondotorg at https://forum.snapcraft.io.

Is this still relevant? If so, what is blocking it? Is there anything you can do to help move it forward?

This looks good to me. But the package has been renamed from scuttlebot to ssb-server, so the snapfile should be updated accordingly.

@skellat Re: https://github.com/ssbc/ssb-db/issues/188, https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/snap-wishlist-suggestions-wanted/567/344 Are you still interested in ssb in snap?
