What if I consider my friend a master of something? Am I also not allowed to refer to her as a master of differential geometry?

Words are allowed to have deprecated meanings, such as colonial connotations, without that meaning people using them associate with those meanings in any way, or even have to care about it.

You can't make the horrors of colonization go away, by trying to eradicate the use of words that you personally associate with it. You are only feeding those powers of the words that you seek to destroy.

Please close this misguided nonsense of an "issue".
