Mac still sleeping when external display removed

I'm using a Macbook Air running the latest version of Mavericks in clamshell 
mode connected to a KVM switch.

The problem I'm having is that when I switch the KVM to another machine, with 
NoSleep running, and switch back a few minutes later, the Macbook Air is always 
and asleep and locked.  

I'm assuming disconnecting an external display is handled differently that 
closing the lid?  Has anyone else had this issue, or know a workaround?  This 
may not even be a feature of NoSleep, but it would save me a lot of headache.
