What is it that we are trying to accomplish with introducing mermaid here?

I think the book/src/development/contributing.md is great, and is what i think we should extract from the PR without adding any new tooling around it and just keep it as md.

Hey @KaiKorla — really appreciate the effort on this. After looking it over, I think it overlaps a bit too much with what’s already in the book, so I’m going to close it for now. Sorry for the slow response, and thanks again for your contributions!
