Move spree_wombat to spree-contrib organization

Open iloveitaly opened this issue 8 years ago • 5 comments

It would be beneficial to the community to move spree_wombat to @spree-contrib to allow PRs to be reviewed & merged by others in the community.

Any thoughts here @JDutil?

Our Wombat end of life is tomorrow. I don't suspect there are many people left contributing to this at all, unless you're a customer still running your own wombat fork. Is there a particular PR you wanted to be merged here?

@JDutil There is an open source wombat-compatible replacement that is getting some usage (https://github.com/nebulab/cangaroo).

There isn't a particular PR I'd like merged, but there are some changes I'd like to make to the repo (hooks for polling-based resource retrieval from spree). I'm guessing (hoping!) other wombat/cangaroo users will want to improve this extension over time as well.

@iloveitaly since we haven't entirely finished running the service, and do not want to cause any confusion or unnecessary support tickets from this we can't right now. In the meantime it would be best to just maintain your own fork. I could perhaps just fork this repo over to spree-contrib, but we can't just transfer the canonical repo otherwise customer applications may pull down changes the community has made that could result in problems for our customers without our knowledge.

I was looking for quickbooks and spree integration. Unfortunately they killed Wombat which seemed nice and would solve my issue right away. Now I don't think that it worths the pain to use three gems to get it accomplished. I should install spree_wombat and fork it so that I can upgrade to 3.1. Also I should run cangaroo also which adds a dependency to my server. In addition to that I have to fork https://github.com/cangaroo/quickbooks_integration since it is based on ruby 2.1.6 which I dont want to use etc... So I think creating a spree extension and reusing some code from from these gem would suffice.

late to the discussion here, but could someone in the @spree-contrib org fork this, as @iloveitaly suggested?
