Brushes App is Frozen

Open mssmith59 opened this issue 9 years ago • 7 comments

The Brushes App on my I Pad is now suddenly frozen. I cannot get any of my presumably saved images in the Gallery section to open - nor can I get back into an image I was building just over a week ago. Everything was working fine and now the App has frozen up. I don't want to think all the work that I created on this App is now lost. Is there a fix or update that can revive matters and regain access to my previously created works? Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you using Brushes or the new Brushes Redux? There was a discussion about how to retrieve old paintings here: https://github.com/sprang/Brushes/issues/33#issuecomment-61338629

Hello - I was just looking at #33 and think I'll give it a try. Basically, if I can save the work I created on Brushes, I'll be very glad to be done with this irresponsible App builder and move onto an App that is not free to install. I should have know better - but at the time the Brushes app came well recommended by an artist friend and I enjoyed its simplicity and range of mark making tools and colors. I was using just the Brushes App and not the Redux. Did this #33 process work for you?

Yep... I wrote that post because I was in a similar position to yours. Saved all the paintings I had done previously and am continuing to use Brushes Redux which is my preference over paid painting apps. I reckon the original developer did an amazing job getting the app up and maintaining it for a while and making it open source. I can understand it can be a thankless task working on a free app, so I don't feel too badly towards him. i'm confident Brushes Redux can be maintained as there's proven to be a lot of users and some developers who want to keep it going.

Thanks for your help. I'll follow the instruction in your #33 posting and check out the Brushes Redux app as a possible alternative app to resume working. I really enjoyed the simplicity of the original Brushes app and was very frustrated to see it freeze up without any warning. Perhaps the other recommended app Procreate is more involved and layered than I need it to be? So - I'll check out the Redux program and see if that is closer to what I was use to using with Brushes. I'll also check into Drop Box as a means to save my images moving forward. Hope this transfer and saving method works. I'll give it a go and get back to you. Thanks again for responding to my inquiry. Cheers

My pleasure to respond... I feel I owe it to Brushes :). And to clarify, Brushes Redux is identical to Brushes except for fixing the issue that happened with the upgrade to iOS 8. The name change was only required because the original developer, Steve Sprang, seems out of reach. Hopefully in the future the name will be able to revert to Brushes.
