playerAPI.play(contentItem, skipToTrackIndex...) doesn't play the item at specified index, rather just plays track from start

I am trying to play a song from a specified index using the playerAPI.play(_ contentItem:skipToTrackIndex:) function. I specify the index as 50000 (the duration of the track is 184665), and call the function. But every time I call the function, it just plays the track from the beginning. How do I properly implement this function?

appRemote.playerAPI?.play(contentAPIItem, skipToTrackIndex: 50000, callback: { result, error in
print(result)
})

No error is thrown and the result is printed, but it doesn't start playing from the specified index.

Ahhh it seems my interpretation of this function may be wrong. Is this function just for skipping to tracks in playlists?
