How can I set the date faster?

Alternate questions:

  • How can I set the date faster after a reset?

Use the Setup application, which allows you to use the year “flipper” … not available in the Clock application.

You can also tap the month to bring up a picker that lets you jump ahead several months at a time.

André Chichak’s Fast Times, a program to set the Newton clock quickly. Includes source code.

Cross reference with date related bugs such as the Y2010 problem.

Also related, the NetTime utility.

On this subject…

On Einstein you can also use Frank Gründel's NewtTest which is already installed in Einstein. By choosing the test [Clock] you can easily set the [Date] and [Time].
You can also use NewtTest on real Newtons, the advantage of NewtTest is that it is compatible with all Newtons.

Another great addition.

Thanks, Sylvain!

You can also use Simon Bell’s Newton Connection for OS X (NCX) to do this.

NCX has a “When connecting: Set Newton date and time” setting in the General Preferences window.

Rated to time setting only, Frank Gründel’s BetterSetter for NOS 1.x
