I've been working on a mobile app for Spliit, and I think it's getting close to be ready for the first release!

The first version is going to work only on iOS (but the technology used, React Native, will make easy to release the Android version next), and will only offer basic features.

More information on the GitHub repository: https://github.com/spliit-app/spliit-mobile (of course it is open source too 😊).

Contact me at [email protected] if you want to be part of the private beta 😉

I am testing it this weekend on a trip with friends. A few remarks already:

  • When adding an expense, the amount field is prefilled with {currency_symbol}0.00 and is not auto cleared when tapped. This is annoying since I always have to clear the amount before entering the correct one. If I mistakenly add the amount without clearing it first, I am adding a fraction of the amount I wanted to add.
  • Tapping “Save” on a new expense with errors does not show any errors, only when I tapped “Save” a second time does it highlight the missing “Paid by” field in red.
  • In the “Paid for” section at the bottom when adding an expense, none of the participants is highlighted by default. I would think most expenses would be split by everyone, so I would select all participants by default, saving a few taps. Though, not sure if I represent the majority.

Hopefully this helps. Thank you for the app, this helped me convert some friends who were reluctant using a PWA.

The app seems to work really smoothly. Just 1 comment/improvement: When adding an expense, I have an issue with my French locale: the decimal symbol in the app is a point, but my keyboard offers me only comma (see screenshot). Maybe I’ve missed something…? IMG_0012

I just downloaded the iOS app and was messing around on it a little. I agree with @cimm on the prefilled expense as $0.00 being annoying. I would like the ability to search for expenses. I would like to set a default user for "paid by" specifically on my iphone that I use the app on.

Hi is there a TestFlight for this?

New user, love the site. App offers a lot of possibilities like notifications etc

Understood that features will hit web first, but the web is a good bit ahead of app

Example of things done better on web than the app (I'm sure there are many more)

  • search expenses
  • there's a partial activity log on web
  • harder to enter amounts on the app as clicking and typing 500 becomes micro cents while on web, default cursor placement is smarter to be 500
  • web assumes group transaction has everyone in by default, app does not
  • don't see the ability to add recurring expense in app like on web

I'm grateful there's an app, they're always preferred over web or even PWA, but curious, will the app always have to build from scratch all the new features that land on web or is there some ability to have it more seamlessly keep the two platforms more consistent?
