Can the sensor node also send GPS/location data?

No, you would need to use the GPS Tracker firmware for that. If you do want to combine GPS and some sensor data, you could opt for the 'Custom Node' programming which you can now do. There is a Wiki page about it: https://github.com/spleenware/ripple/wiki/Custom-Node-Programming
