Amundsen-Scott station 1000km away from itself

The game dropped me inside the Amundsen-Scott station at the very south pole. In Mercator projection, this should be the whole bottom line of the map. Unfortunately, the game had one specific spot on that line in mind, and located my picked point over 1000km away, from what is essentially the same place. It seems the game's metric should take the metric's degeneration near extreme points into account, if Amundsen-Scott is up for play.
