Identifying color schemes

It would be nice if there were JPG/GIF/PNG files that showed a sample of the color schemes without having to install a color scheme, open a sample file and then uninstall it if it is unsuitable.

I am a "senior citizen" still writing code. I love the color schemes. I now have to go through the learning curve of how to modify the color schemes to my own use. As my eyes are aging I find that I need higher contrasts in fonts versus the background (cataracts anyone?). For example I note that in the ir_black scheme the light gray color used for comment lines in Bash has a relatively low contrast to the black background, making them difficult to read. Prior to age 60, these were never issues

If color schemes had documentation that highlighted why they are aesthetically superior (maybe I missed those files) that would help. I have been using Unix/Linux since 1974 in Urbana Illinois (University of Illinois) using arpanet node #6
