Electrum Android 4.5.8 Installation on Pixel 5 (Android 14) Fails to Launch Offline
Description
I experienced a critical issue where my existing installation of Electrum for Android (v4.5.8) on a Google Pixel 5 (Android 14), which has an existing wallet with funds and has been used successfully offline in the past, recently failed to launch while the device was in Flight Mode. The app only launched successfully after I connected the device to the internet.
This device is dedicated as an offline cold wallet. It has been kept in Flight Mode consistently. I had not opened the Electrum app for a while (months) but it was working correctly the last time I used it, entirely offline.
Cannot reproduce with a clean install of v4.5.8 on pixel 5..
Can you provide logging?
@accumulator Unfortunately I cannot produce any logs because (1) as I mentioned the issue resolved after connecting the device to the internet and (2) I don't have any air gap machine to connect the device to if I would attempt to replicate the issue and collect logs
I am however very confident about this issue. I had restarted the app and device multiple times to no avail. I considered clearing the cache of the app but decided against that out of fear of losing access to my wallet as I did not have a backup. And finally I decided to connect to the internet in order to download the latest app version where I saw that my app was already up to date so I didn't download anything. And so I decided to open the app again and voila it started successfully. The only conclusion I could come to was that it needed internet access for something...maybe to reset it's clock or download some files...I dunno 🤷🏾♂️
Hi @accumulator , same problem here. It happens when the device battery gets fully discharged or removed. After that, Electrum fails to launch. The device is dedicated as an offline cold wallet.
Electrum version: 4.5.8 Android 6.0.1 Samsung Galaxy S5 mini
The file logok01.txt is the log when Electrum opens correctly.
The file logerror01.txt is the log when Electrum fails to launch and gets stuck on the logo screen.
Thanks a lot for the report and logs @fapinheiro! I think I managed to fix this in https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/commit/61623d6d56282bc344d22bfa70d93c332964cd87.
The workaround is to set your clock manually.
