Streamlining the manual setup procedure
Just a note to mention that when you setup your api the "Use Strict Mode for Redirect URIs" setting is greyed out ; it's just when you add your url and save that you can switch the setting.
@marteaurouge, thank you so much for bringing attention to this.
The way the settings UI behaves has definitely become quirkier since the last time I used it. However, upon testing a few things, it appears that setting strict mode isn't even necessary. I updated the setup instructions: 28c7bd7fc5f16a3d652bdcfcdf727e197526d590
Clicking the little [?] to "learn more" is a link to the official Facebook docs on login security, which warn that:
Enabling Strict Mode is currently required for the Instagram API, and will soon be required for all apps.
I'm going to leave this thread open to encourage discussion regarding changes in the manual setup procedure.
For the record, I have just updated and drastically simplified the setup instructions (495d96c3fa4347da4ad652067bb73947e9c0e951).
Still keeping this thread open, as simplification is always golden.
The simplified instructions are definitely a help but with the recent changes to the Facebook developer platform and requirements, they no longer work. At least for me, I cannot enable login and permissions with submitting my App for Review and this requires the setting of a platform and an icon; and the app review requires explicitly describing how you will use each of the permissions requests, which seem to be user_videos, user_photos, user_posts and user_likes. Still struggling with this ...
AND, once the permission is described, a screencast/video must be uploaded ... :(
