Description
//: # "======================= Rosetta Phone: Sharing a library of knowledge and educational apps with offline communities using the Android device they already own. Developing social enterprise models to market Rosetta Phones & Rosetta home devices.
============================"
What are we working on during the do-a-thon? What kinds of support do we need?
How can others contribute?
//: # "======================= Please say what the best way to contribute to the project or challenge is, sometimes that will just be 'lets discuss here' or 'Ive started a Google doc'.
If you are a project lead, and you already have clear ways people can contribute it might be worth linking to them here. Language: I speak English, French & Arabic translation skill would be particularly useful.
This is a remote project I'm not 'in the room' in Berlin.
There are a couple of tasks we could tackle depending on the skills and enthusiasm.
=================== Making a .zim file of the boundless courses.
This would involve
a) Install https://www.httrack.com/page/2/en/index.html
b) run htrack on each of the courses listed here https://courses.lumenlearning.com/catalog/boundlesscourses & delete large log file that is created in the content
c) Create .zim (I've never successfully done this bit before) http://www.openzim.org/wiki/Zimwriterfs_instructions
Tools needed: On Linux https://github.com/openzim/zimwriterfs On Windows/Mac: -Install Virtualbox https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/5.2.20/VirtualBox-5.2.20-125813-Win.exe
- Download OVA http://download.kiwix.org/dev/ZIMmaker.ova (big download)
- Import OVA https://www.maketecheasier.com/import-export-ova-files-in-virtualbox/
c) Test the file in https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.kiwix.kiwixmobile/
d) Upload the .zim file to https://github.com/openzim/zim-requests/issues/115
===========================
Another thing that would be useful is just writing some coherent words around why this project is a good idea
===========================
Translating the text on www.rosettaphone.org into French or Arabic
============================
Setting up a https://opencollective.com donation page for the project
============================
Setting up a Facebook group & Inviting people to join it
=================================
Email any grant funders you know personally and ask them to get in touch if they are interested in funding it
==============================
Making .zim files of any of the other proposed content: https://calc.disroot.org/0d5f8o2eubdi which doesn't already have a .zim
============================
