This post is part of the OpenCon 2017 Do-A-Thon. Not sure what's going on? Head here.
I am interested in identifying policy elements (e.g. whether a policy treats gender in a binary fashion or not, and if not how) that could then be used to compare policies or monitor compliance.
Haven't made too much progress yet, but if you could think of policy elements that would be of interest in your context, I'd be happy to use them as examples.

Hi @AJOpenCon17 - The potential impact this resource is very inspiring :1st_place_medal: I am committed to another project today, but I would love to contribute virtually after OpenCon and would like to speak with you about promoting this work in a open digital space that I help curate. ❤️
@AJOpenCon17 thanks for sharing this as a do-a-thon!
What is your perspective on the Citizen code of conduct that is already openly licensed (other option is the Contributor Covenant? I would be interested to hear thoughts on what is missing here and how it might be incorporated.
These code of conducts are default options in GitHub CODE_OF_CONDUCT
files (thanks to hard work of @CoralineAda) and are used by quite some open projects. These might also be readily reused in institutions?
Hay, thanks for the references. I will check the links more carefully. My idea is to be more descriptive around the trans* experience, and highlight specific sensitive aspects / challenges that destabilize the emotional well being of this group.
The 10 colleges that achieved the highest gender identity score on the Campus Pride Index can be track in CampusPrideIndex.org. Any OpenCon alumni/ members from here?
- Indiana University, Bloomington
- Ithaca College
- Kansas State University

Trans-supportive colleges and universities offer numerous policies and practices to address the needs of their trans students, including providing:
- gender-inclusive restrooms in most campus buildings
- enabling trans students to be housed in keeping with their gender identity
- allowing students to change their name on campus records (e.g., ID cards and course rosters) without a legal name change
- allowing students to change their gender marker on campus records without changing legal documents
- covering transition-related medical expenses under student health insurance
- having an optional gender identity question on admission applications
- providing private changing facilities and single-person showers in athletic facilities and recreational centers.
The most trans-supportive institutions not only offer these policies but also have developed the best practices for implementing them. Many of these colleges also go beyond these basic policies to provide further support to trans students.

Germany lacks of a system of support to trans students. I personally did not feel protected but in vulnerability.
