Inability to Open Certain .x Files

Open Thaeris opened this issue 13 years ago • 2 comments

Hello Sir!

I'm trying to open what should be a rather simple .x file with your importer, but when attempting to do so, there is nothing to see! The file has no animations, and is quite possibly in an older Direct X format. If you could take a look at the file and determine why it cannot be opened in the current importer, I'm certain you can improve this very useful utility in the future.

If the above does not provide a direct link to the file, please find the "Dauntless.7z" file.

Good evening Sir :)

thanks for this, I've downloaded close.x and... oh ok : for now there's no support for BINARY .x format, only ASCII, 'human readable' format are supported in my script. there should be a warning about this in the blender console. but binary support is on my roadmap.

if you know a tool that convert .x files from binary to ascii you could try first to convert to ascii then try my script. btw I'll be interested in any pointer you have about such a tool.

also armature import is ok but no animation yet sorry.

also it will be kind if you let me know in which context / what purpose you need this importer / what option you'd like to have in order I can tune it / add feature for particular, common needs I won't be aware of.

thanks for your reply,

Jerome

Sorry for the late response on this, I've just been quite busy. Furthermore, I'm not sure of how much help I can provide you with.

I am prinicpally a modeler and an artist, as you may guess. As such, the file in question was needed as a reference to a project I was working on. I was actually able to have the file converted by a friend who has DeepExploration, but I personally cannot direct you to any software that is transparent enough to demonstrate direct conversions between ASCII and binary for .x files.

If it is possible for me to assist you in any other fashion, however, please let me know.
