Steps to reproduce
1.I want to synchronize between the OnePlus 13 and the E-Reader BOOX P6. I downloaded Feeder version 2.9.1 from the Google Play Store on the OnePlus 13. The BOOX P6 cannot access Google Play and I can only download it from the browser, version 2.6.10. 2.I clicked "create a sync chain" on the OnePlus 13, and it shows a QR code and sync code. On the BOOX P6, I choose "Scan/Input," and it asks for the sync code and key, but I only have the sync code and cannot click the sync chain button. 3.I clicked "create a sync chain" on the BOOX P6, which also shows a QR code and sync code. I opened Feeder on the OnePlus 13, selected "Scan/Input," but it says "No barcode found" and asks for the sync code and key. Again, I only have the sync code and cannot click the sync button. Which step went wrong? Where is the key? And why am I not seeing the barcode? 1.

Install the latest version on Boox
First, download the latest apk for your Boox reader from here: https://github.com/spacecowboy/Feeder/releases/tag/2.9.1
Alternatively, activate the play store on the boox reader: https://booxmalaysia.com/googleplay/
Best way to make a sync chain
The best way is to start the chain on your Boox device so it can render the bar code there.
Then you can scan the code on your phone. It doesn't have to be the scanner from Feeder. You can use any bar code scanner.
The QR code contains a URI.
You can copy paste this URL into the textfields and the app will identify the key and code from the URI.
I have a related issue. I tried to start a new sync chain to sync Feeder between my two Pixel phones. I clicked the button to start a new chain on one of them. It generated a barcode for me to scan with the other. On that phone I clicked scan or enter sync code and got an error "Could not find a barcode scanner". What is it looking for? I was expecting it to open the native camera app. Anyway, it said alternatively to try opening the link on the device. I copied the link and then pasted it into chrome on the other device and got a 404 "This feederapp.nononsenseapps.com page can't be found". So it seems entirely broken. I know its beta so I can't complain. I just wanted to make sure someone is aware of the issue so that perhaps it can be addressed someday.
you should paste it into the field in the app.
you cant open it with chrome.
about the bar code app, install one which implements zxing interface (basically all bar code scanner apps)
Thanks. It wasn't 100% clear which field to paste it into, sync code or secret key. Pasting a url into any of those fields seems counterintuitive.
Generally qr codes and such are scanned with the native camera app these days, but feeder doesn't seem to work with that. Can you recommend a particular android barcode scanner app that would?

I know. This is because it is a work-around.
Feeder will natively open the link and do the right thing. But that only works if you can click the link in the right place.
Also, sometimes Android will not allow Feeder to intercept the link depending on how you installed it.
If you open App Info for Feeder by long pressing the Icon, then open Set as default, you should see an entry for Open supported links. Sometimes this is not enabled. Then go into Supported web addresses and you might notice that feederapp.nononsenseapps.com is not enabled either.
That's why it didn't work for you.
Google is finicky about allowing apps to intercept links because it would obviously be a security issue if the wrong app could intercept any URL..

See that would work perfectly fine IF feeder was configured correctly to intercept the URL as stated above.
But that is different from opening the camera from Feeder itself. No native camera implements the interface to allow an app to open it to scan a barcode. Apps either implement that themselves, or rely on external apps to do it.
As for recommended scanner app I recommend BinaryEye as it is open source, works well, and has no spyware or ads.
BTW thanks for reporting. It made me double check the link verification and it was indeed broken. Fixed it now so the link should be enabled by default to be intercepted by Feeder going forward.
Open supported links in the app was enabled in my case but no URLs were selected. I added feederapp.nononsenseapps.com. Thanks for the barcode scanner recommendation. No API for opening the camera to scan a barcode seems like a pretty glaring omission. Google, sigh.
