[CRASH] EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION and exit code -1073740791 in Minecraft 1.20.4 with OptiFine_HD_U_I7_pre2

Description of Issue

A fresh Optifine install on a fresh Minecraft 1.20.4 install crashes on loading a world (before rendering the first game frame) with an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION and Exit Code -1073740791.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Install Minecraft 1.20.4 and OptiFine_HD_U_I7_pre2
2. Load any world

  • Tried increasing RAM allocation to JVM to 8GB

Are you able to verify with certainty that this doesn't happen in vanilla? I ask, because this similar report on Mojira describes the same thing. It seems to be an issue with Minecraft as a whole https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-267731
