Doesn't work on project in a git submodule

There seems to be some trouble with using this langserver on code in a git submodule. It's working fine when I clone our fork of Gitea into a folder. But when I use it in a submodule I get errors e.g.

Can try and make a more minimal reproduction of the issue if there is interest.
