How about decrease the tail length of "i" a little?

iandl tails

It's not often, but sometimes the shape of i and l are really confusing. I think it would be more clearly distinguished if the tail length of i is decreased a little bit.

Happy to look into this. Can you let me know what font size and platform you are using for the screenshot?

@chrissimpkins I usually set font size to 14pt(the screenshot is bigger size) and platform currently using is IntelliJ IDEA.

Can you also let me know what operating system you are on? This influences the shapes of the glyphs.

I should be able to replicate what you are seeing once I have the above info and can check it at a variety of sizes.

And the design solution here may be to push that dot above the i ('tittle') up a bit so that it renders as a shape that is distinct from the stroke on the l glyph. I think that what you may be seeing is the two shapes fused which makes it look like similar to the l. We can explore this.

@chrissimpkins Thanks for detailed answer! My operating system is Windows 10. (Build number 17763.292)

@chrissimpkins Plus, the length of i's head is quite short, especially compared to t. (It is same when it's italic) So, like above screenshot, it is a little hard to distinguish head of word i if it is bolded or has small size. I feel this is not pretty. Decreasing the tail and increasing the head seems better. Please look into this too.

I just wanted to comment that the point on the letter 'i' in bold is stuck to the body of the letter, I have tried it on windows and in linux, in different sizes, that is in the first screenshot, sorry for my english

Thank you both for weighing in! I just looked at the designs last night and am trying to find a better approach. The point above the i (tittle) may be a bit tight against the rest of the shape in the bold weight.

I haven't thoroughly reviewed Hyunwoo's comments about the horizontal positions of the shape yet. Will update here when I do.

@EnzoKronus can you please let me know what sizes in the range of 8 - 14pt you are seeing your issue?

Size 11 and 12 are the ones I remember, as an additional detail, I had played with the rendering of fonts in linux, on eclipse ide, intellij idea, konsole, gnome, but that view was always maintained.

Thanks for the reply!

For reference, here is the render of the bold weight on macOS prior to any modifications:
